Material related to the evidence submitted to the Committee by the Institute of Psychoanalysis, led by William Gillespie. The papers include draft material (with comments from members of the Society) and the final version of the memorandum submitted to the Committee, as well as correspondence, including letters from members regarding their experiences of treating homosexual patients. The Report of the Departmental Committee on Homosexual Offences and Prostitution, published in 1957, became better known as the Wolfenden report, after Sir John Wolfenden, the chairman of the committee.
