Audio-visual material

Audio and video material, including recordings of meetings, conferences, lectures and events of the British Psychoanalytical Society; International Psychoanalytical Congresses; oral history interviews; and some miscellaneous material.

A project has been completed to transfer all video and reel-to-reel recordings to digital format. This was funded by money from the Pearl King Archives Trust.

Non-members will be able to to view/listen to material at the Library of the Institute of Psychoanalysis. Members can either come to the Library or borrow a lending copy for one week.

It may be possible to make copies at a charge.

Papers concerning the development of psychoanalysis in Australia including: two items related to a visit to the country by Dr R M Riggall in 1934; papers regarding the establishment of the Melbourne Institute for Psychoanalysis (1939-1942), the Sydney Institute for Psychoanalysis (1952) and the Australian Society of Psychoanalysis, as a branch of the British Psychoanalytical Society (1952); also reports of these organisations and papers related to training of psychoanalysts in Australia (1952-1963).

In addition, there is correspondence regarding the training of candidates and their applications for membership of the British Psychoanalytical Society (1957-c1966), including membership papers (1951-c1966). This material is currently closed to researchers.
