This is Marion Milner's best-known work on psychoanalysis. It relates to her lengthy treatment of a psychotic patient and the insights she gained into her own mind.

Analysis began in 1943 when the woman was 23, at request of D W Winnicott. It lasted 20 years and Milner remained a close confidant.
