The majority of this collection is material related to the writings and lectures of Sylvia Payne, including papers on various psychoanalytic themes, book reviews, responses to colleagues' papers and lecture scripts. Also included are papers written by various psychoanalytic colleagues, as well as a small quantity of material related to her work for the British Psychoanalytical Society. There are also a few items of of personal material and memorabilia, plus some papers produced during biographical research on Payne's life and work.

Materials concerning the Strachey's translation of psychoanalytic texts, particularly 'The Standard Edition of the Complete Works of Sigmund Freud'. Also included are their own psychoanalytic writings, plus professional and personal papers and correspondence.
The bulk of this collection is material related to the translation of the works of Sigmund Freud by James Strachey for 'The Standard Edition of the Complete Psychological Works of Sigmund Freud', plus other translations and writings by both James and Alix Strachey. Also included are: written works by colleagues; personal and professional correspondence and papers (including extensive correspondence regarding the Stracheys' translations and publications); personal material.

Writings and lectures on psychoanalysis and childcare, as well as material related to Isaacs' activities in the British Psychoanalytical Society, including the Controversial Discussions in the 1940s.

Papers relating to Isaacs' work on psychoanalysis and child analysis, including her writings and publications (typescripts and offprints, as well as cuttings of articles and advice columns in 'Nursery World' and 'Home & School') and incomplete sets of lectures on anthropology and child analysis. Also included are a small number of notes/papers commenting on the work of other authors, as well as papers and correspondence related to Isaacs' activities in the British Psychoanalytical Society, including the Controversial Discussions in the 1940s.

Papers related to Bowlby's work within the British Psychoanalytical Society, particularly training activities, as well as responses to papers presented at the Society, articles about his career and posthumous material.

Photocopies of correspondence between Wolfgang Loch and Michael and Enid Balint discussing professional and personal matters.

Loch's correspondence with Michael Balint (99 letters plus two fragments) covers the period 1961 to 1971 and discusses their psychoanalytic perspectives, their papers and matters regarding publication, as well as other professional issues and relationships, plus arrangements for psychoanalytic events and meetings.

The correspondence with Enid Balint (62 letters) covers the period 1968 to 1994 (mainly 1974-1990) and discusses similar matters, as well as the affairs of the Balint Society and Balint Groups. Also included at the end of this file are copies of three papers by Enid Balint which she sent to Loch: 'The history of training and research in Balint Groups', produced for the 6th International Balint Congress, 1984 (two copies); 'Creative life', 1989; and 'Draft for Cambridge paper 13 May 1989'.

Neither set of correspondence is complete; the final item in each set is a note informing Loch of the death of his correspondent.

Photocopies of six letters received by Matte Blanco commenting on his psychoanalytic work. The collection comprises one letter from each of the following people: Wilfred Bion, Sigmund Freud, Ernest Jones, Melanie Klein, Bertrand Russell and Walter Schmideberg.
