The first letter is a request, by Menninger, for sources and articles on psychoanalysis for abstraction and use in a neuropsychiatric journal. The correspondence between 1943-1946 is regarding the proceedings of the American Psychoanalytic Association (of which Menninger had been elected President), with particular reference to the resignation of Karen Horney and matters concerning Gregory Zilboorg. Many letters were written while the couple were separated for work or domestic reasons; in general the letters are concerning their children, family health concerns and financial and domestic arrangements, as well as travel and professional issues with patients and colleagues.
